SPIE PHOTONICS WEST 2026
We are thrilled to announce that engionic Group will be exhibiting at SPIE Photonics West 2026 in San Francisco. At our booth 4205-23, we will highlight how our advanced photonics solutions address real-world applications across industries:
From engionic Femto Gratings we present high survivability femtosecond-laser-written Fiber Bragg Gratings (FBG) suitable for high temperature, high strain and ionizing radiation environments.
From engionic Fiber Optics we showcase tailored fiber-optic light-guide assemblies for cross-section converters, vacuum feed-throughs, medical probes and FBG sensors for industrial, medical and energy-sector customers.
From engionic CNC we will display our high precision machined mechanical parts optimized for free-space and fiber optic applications.
These technologies apply to structural-health monitoring (bridges, dams, wind turbines), power-plant instrumentation, process-control in energy and oil & gas, and advanced medical-optical probes.
We invite you to visit us at the German Pavilion where we’ll be demonstrating how our photonic components—light guides + FBG sensors + precision assemblies—enable next-generation sensing, monitoring and optical solutions. Let’s connect, explore collaborations, and build the future of photonics together.

WAVELENGTH LOCKING WITH FEMTOSECOND FBG
As photonics applications demand ever more precise and stable light sources, diode laser wavelength drift and instability can pose a real challenge - especially in telecom, spectroscopy, and sensing systems.
Enter femtosecond-inscribed Fiber Bragg Gratings (FBG).
Unlike traditional UV-inscribed FBG, femtosecond-written gratings offer:
- superior thermal and mechanical stability
- direct inscription into virtually any fiber type (SM, PM, Pure Silica Core, even non-photosensitive fibers)
- custom wavelength choice without the need for phase masks
- resistance to high optical powers and harsh environments
This makes femtosecond FBG ideal as wavelength lockers - providing a cost effective, robust reference that keeps diode lasers locked to a fixed wavelength, even under fluctuating diode temperatures or drive currents.
Whether you're designing optical modules for telecom, LiDAR, DAS/DTS/DSS or quantum tech, femtosecond FBG offer a low-drift, compact, and passive solution for rock-solid laser stability.

LEADING INDUSTRY EXPERT DR. ANDREW GILLOOLY APPOINTED NEW MANAGING DIRECTOR
We are proud to announce, that Dr. Andrew Gillooly will become the new Managing Director Sales & Business Development, taking over responsibility for all sales and business development activities of the engionic group.
Andy looks back on twenty-four years of relevant industry and technology experience and is a highly recognized fiber optics expert. He will strongly support the ambitious growth plan of the engionic group and support the development of new fiber optic products and applications.
Mark Thielenhaus, CEO of the group’s holding company engionic AG, says: “I’ve known Andy for more than 10 years and I have always very much enjoyed our fruitful co-operation as well as Andy’s outstanding know-how about fiber optical technologies, their applications and the industry. Hence, I am very glad, that Andy will contribute these assets and his strong managerial capabilities to his new role. But even more, I am looking forward to jointly shape the future of the engionic group and to write the next chapter of the engionic journey! Welcome on board Andy!”
Andy will join our team at Photonics West 2025 in San Francisco and is looking forward to meeting you there!
“Having watched engionic’s success story over the last 10 years, I am delighted to be joining the engionic family, following in the footsteps of the original pioneers of femtosecond Fiber Bragg Gratings. The broad capabilities of the group, from CNC machining through to fiber optic assemblies, offers a stable foundation and enables synergies from which to further drive the engionic success story alongside Margarethe, Mark and the wider team” Andy states.
Dr. Margarethe Kampling will hand over her sales team responsibility to Andy in March and ensure a smooth and effective transition until the end of 2025. Thereafter, she plans to give her career a more scientific direction but will continue to support the engionic group on a consulting basis. “Over more than 12 years, Margarethe has performed an outstanding job to develop and form the engionic group. Under her sales responsibility, the group managed to triple its business – thank you Margarethe for this great success! Therefore, I am very pleased to continue our co-operation also beyond 2025.” says Mark Thielenhaus.

SPIE PHOTONICS WEST 2025
Meet us from January 28th until 30th, 2025 at SPIE Photonics West in San Francisco.
The engionic Group warmly welcomes you to the German Pavilion, booth no. 4205-27. This year we are once again pleased to present our latest product innovations in the area of fs-laser-written fiber Bragg gratings, temperature and strain sensors as well as high-precision light guides at the world's largest photonic trade fair.
PRODUCT SPECIAL: FBG WAVELENGTH LOCKERS FOR LASER DIODES WITH UNSEEN CUSTOMIZATION FLEXIBILITY
We have further developed and optimized our well-established fs-laser-based fiber bragg grating (FBG) inscription technology to efficiently produce low loss FBG-based wavelength lockers for laser diodes. Our entire manufacturing set-up is designed for cost-optimized volume manufacturing and allows us to offer wavelength lockers at much lower costs compared to established “standard” laser FBG manufacturing technologies, e.g. we do not require phase masks to vary wavelengths.
Our inscription process gives our valued customers a maximum flexibility regarding the desired wavelength and fiber types, since we do not require any Germanium doping of the fiber.
What are wavelength lockers used for? The wavelength of a pump laser diode varies with its operating temperature. Therefore a FBG-based wavelength locker with low reflectivity is used to stabilize the wavelength and intensity of the laser. Numerous well-reckoned laser manufacturers have already qualified our wavelength lockers and receive regular shipments for their laser products.
Please contact our sales team to learn more about the benefits of our products or to arrange a personal meeting at the German Pavilion.
